Toma Runc grew up in a small village on the edge of Romania's Carpathian forests. A former forest ranger, he knows the mountain paths, the people who live among them, and the old stories passed from one generation to the next.

When Toma was a teenager, his younger brother vanished on the night of Rusalii. Some villagers blamed the Iele. Others refused to speak of what happened. No one ever found the boy—or explained his disappearance.

Years later, Toma investigates the strange cases others fear or dismiss. He studies the tracks, listens to witnesses, and searches for the hidden rule behind each mystery. He does not chase monsters for glory; he wants to protect the living and understand what happened to his brother.

Every case goes into his worn field notebook. And behind every investigation remains the same question: Could this be the clue that finally leads him to his brother?
